Columbia, SC Overnight Field Trip
Tuesday, June 5-6, 2018
This is a three part field trip, you are welcome to join in for all or any part. It is a scheduled overnight trip.
Meet at the front of Riverbanks Zoo and Garden (500 Wildlife Parkway, Columbia, SC) at 9 am Tuesday June 5th.
This is a 170 acre Zoo, Aquarium and Botanical Garden located along the Saluda River in Columbia, South Carolina. Hours are 9am to 5pm. Tickets are $15.95 for adults and $14.95 for seniors 62+. At 9am the gorillas are feeding close to the viewing area away from their sleeping quarters. This is a great place to shoot first thing. Walk straight through the entrance and to the left.
Lunch around 1pm at Nicks House of Pizza, 1082 Sunset Blvd #A, West Columbia, 29169. Casual dining at a great price. After lunch you can return to the zoo, check in to your room or drive home.
Tuesday evening we will shoot the Broad River Overflow, riverfront walkway and the West Columbia Riverfront Walk and Amphitheater. Nice setting here with an older bridge over the river with old fashioned streetlights on the bridge and a view of downtown Columbia's skyline. We will stay past the "Blue Hour".
Wednesday morning grab breakfast where ever you want and meet in front of the office of the Clarion Inn, 500 Chris Dr. West Columbia, 29169. Meetup at 8am sharp. This motel is right off I-26. We will take I-26 to our morning shoot at:
Francis Beidler Forest, 336 Sanctuary Rd. Harleyville, S.C. This is about an hour drive from Columbia. Tickets are $10.00, $8.00 for seniors. This is part of South Carolina's Audubon, a 1.75 mile boardwalk. The largest Virgin Cypress-Tupelo Swamp Forest in the world, over 18,000 acres. Hours are 9am until 5pm. Shoot as long as you want until time to travel home. This will be about a 3 hour ride home.
