Gibbs Gardens/Tullulah Gorge State Park Field Trip
April 2, 3, 4 , 2018
Gibbs Gardens and Tullulah Gorge State Park are both in NW Georgia. Monday, April 2 will be a travel day with the possibility of an evening shoot in the area. You will be responsible for your own transportation and lodging. See the attached information sheet that Dennis Guffey has prepared.
Gibbs Gardens is a world class garden located in the northeastern Georgia Mountains approximately one hour north of Atlanta in Ball Ground, Georgia.
The dates of April 02-04 were chosen because it will be in the last 2 weeks of the daffodil season and may also include cherry blossoms, dogwood blooms, early azaleas. If we are lucky this time period will be in the overlap of four blooms. Gibbs Gardens has 20+ million daffodils that include 100+ varieties.
Tullaluh Gorge
Tullulah Gorge is one of the most spectacular canyons in the eastern U.S., two miles long and nearly 1,000 feet deep. Visitors can hike rim trails to several overlooks, or they can obtain a permit to hike to the gorge floor (100 per day, not available during water releases). A suspension bridge sways 80 feet above the rocky bottom, providing spectacular views of the river and waterfalls. Tightrope walkers have twice crossed the gorge, and visitors can still see towers used by Karl Wallenda. A paved path follows an on old railroad bed, perfect for strollers and bicycles, while mountain bikers can test their skills on a challenging 10 mile trail.
This year please reply on the CCOH Exchange. This will give everyone attending notice of who will be going. This way if you need a ride you can plan for car pooling and Dennis will have a rough number for making lunch and dinner reservations. If you are not on the CCoH Exchange, please contact Ken Weaver who will add you to the Exchange.
Photos that you may take on this field trip can be sent to John Ayre, our Field Trip Video Recap Coordinator. Use the Submission Guide to prepare your images and get them to John by April 18. He will send you a confirmation if he receives them from you.
As with all of our field trips, we require a completely filled out Release Agreement for each person attending our organized events. It is important that you have it downloaded, printed and filled out before you leave home. Have it with you when you arrive at Gibbs Garden on April 3.
